Midsummer Workshop in Northern Norway!

Special guest: Hans Petter Moland

SOURCES 2 just completed its fourth Script Development Workshop at the FilmCamp, realised with the support and the cooperation of FilmCamp AS, our long-term partner in Norway.

The session was held from 10th – 18th June 2010 at the FilmCamp, where all guests were accommodated.

FilmCamp AS is a regional centre for feature film and creative documentary film production, located in a natural setting with a large variety of landscapes in the middle of Troms County. The centre offers a complete infrastructure, funding and professional support for film and TV productions shot in the region or in the FilmCamp’s large studio.

Ten feature film projects and two creative documentaries have been selected for participation. Writers, directors and producers from Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom met for an intensive seven-day session in order to develop their projects and receive professional training. The workshop will be followed by a three-month coaching period and a follow-up session.

Participants with feature film projects worked in two small groups, guided by Louise Gough (dramaturge, script consultant, script editor; Australia) and Miguel Machalski (scriptwriter, script consultant; France/Argentina). The third group with feature film as well as creative documentary projects is guided by Arash T. Riahi (scriptwriter, script consultant, director, producer; Austria).

The workshop's general programme featured the following public events:

The internationally acclaimed Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland held the traditional SOURCES of Inspiration Lecture, preceded by the screening of his recent feature film A Somewhat Gentle Man (2010), premiered in the competion of this year’s International Film Festival Berlin. The event was rounded off by a cocktail reception.

In a SOURCES 2 hands-on Round Table-Workshop adviser Louise Gough elucidated common questions around characterisation, dramatisation and dramatic aspects, working with excerpts of films and practical writing exercises: Five Things a Writer Might Hear, and What They Actually Mean

The SOURCES 2 Round Table featured Thomas Woschitz (writer, director, editor; Austria) and Oliver Welter (composer, musician, vocalist; Austria) who presented their music film Universalove (2008), composed by a selection of images and a soundtrack by Austrian indie band Naked Lunch.

In individual sessions production adviser Dagmar Jacobsen (producer; Germany) provided her feedback and advice on how to improve the dialogue between writers and producers during the development process.
